A flat battery is the most common reason a vehicle won’t start, and usually the quickest to fix. We come out with a professional booster pack and get you going again. If the battery won’t hold a charge, we can recover the vehicle to a garage there and then.
Is it the battery?
It’s probably the battery if:
- You turn the key or press start and hear clicking, or nothing at all
- The engine turns over slowly, then gives up
- The dashboard lights are dim or flicker
- The central locking or key fob has stopped working
- The vehicle has been parked for a week or more, or something was left on overnight
If the engine turns over normally but won’t fire, the battery probably isn’t the problem. Call us and we’ll talk it through.
Why we use a booster pack
Modern cars and vans are packed with electronics that don’t like voltage spikes. A professional booster delivers a regulated current, connects to the manufacturer’s jump points rather than straight to the battery, and doesn’t need a second vehicle parked nose to nose in the road.
Stop-start, hybrid and electric vehicles
Vehicles with stop-start use AGM or EFB batteries that need the right handling. Hybrid and electric vehicles have a 12V battery that wakes up the high-voltage system. We follow each manufacturer’s procedure, so the jump start doesn’t cause a new fault.
When a jump start isn’t enough
If the vehicle won’t start, or dies again soon after, the battery may be beyond saving or the alternator may not be charging it. We’ll recover the vehicle to your garage or a battery specialist, so you’re not stuck twice. See breakdown recovery for other faults.
