Questions and answers
The questions drivers most often ask about recovery. If yours isn’t here, call us: we’re happy to talk it through, any time.
Getting help
How quickly can you get to me?
We’ll tell you an arrival time when you call, based on where our nearest truck is and the traffic between us. If anything changes on the way, we’ll ring you to let you know.
I have breakdown cover. Should I call you?
Call your breakdown provider first, as your policy may already cover recovery. If they can’t reach you quickly, or what you need isn’t covered, call us and we’ll give you a price.
I don’t know exactly where I am. How will you find me?
Tap the WhatsApp button on this site to send us your exact location, or give us a what3words address. On a motorway, the number on the nearest blue driver location sign pinpoints you to within 500 metres.
Are you really open 24 hours?
Yes. We answer the phone and send out trucks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.
What should I have ready when I call?
Your exact location, the vehicle’s make, model and registration, what’s happened, and where you’d like the vehicle taken. It also helps to know whether the wheels turn, whether the steering works and whether you have the keys and any locking wheel nut key.
Prices and payment
How much does recovery cost?
It depends on the distance, the vehicle and its condition, so we give you a fixed price on the phone before we set off. That price includes any tolls or charges on the route, and it’s the price you pay.
Can I claim the cost back from my insurer?
Often, yes, especially after an accident. Keep the invoice we give you and send it with your claim. If the accident wasn’t your fault, the other driver’s insurer may cover the recovery.
How do I pay?
When we agree the price, we’ll confirm how you’d like to pay. You’ll get an invoice for every job, which you can use for expenses or an insurance claim.
Your vehicle
Can you recover a vehicle from an underground car park?
Usually, yes. Most recovery trucks can’t fit under a car park’s height barrier, so we move the vehicle up to street level with skates and a winch first. Tell us the height limit and the level when you call.
Can you recover electric and hybrid cars?
Yes. Electric and hybrid vehicles travel on the flatbed with all four wheels off the road, which is what manufacturers recommend.
Can you move a vehicle without the keys?
Yes. We use skates to move vehicles with locked wheels or steering. We’ll ask for proof that the vehicle is yours, or that you have the owner’s permission, before we load it.
Can I travel in the truck with my vehicle?
Usually, yes. Most recoveries take the driver and passengers along in the cab. Tell us how many of you there are when you call so we can plan for it.
Do you offer a towing service?
Yes. Recovery is what most UK drivers mean by towing. We carry every vehicle on the bed of a flatbed recovery truck rather than towing it on its own wheels, which is safer for automatics, four-wheel drives, electric cars and anything that’s been damaged.
What vans can you recover?
Any van up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight, including long-wheelbase and high-roof models such as the Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Volkswagen Crafter. We can usually recover a loaded van with its load on board.
Where we go
Where can you take my vehicle?
Wherever you need it to go. Your home, your usual garage, a main dealer, your insurer’s repairer, your depot or anywhere else in the UK.
Which parts of London do you cover?
All of it. We cover all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, plus the M25 and the roads into London from every direction.
Can you take my vehicle outside London?
Yes. We can take your vehicle anywhere in mainland England, Scotland and Wales, and bring you home with it.
